This set of pictures was taken at the Spiderpool that appears in many different pinup and girly mag shoots.
For years a group of collectors and fans of the Spiderpool shoots searched for the exact location of the pool. They tried everything (even tracking down models and photographers that might remember where it was). For years the pool remained a mystery until a couple identified a building that was visible in some of the shots and finally found the remains of the Spiderpool back in 2004.
It turns out that the pool was built in the 1920’s by legendary silent film actor, director and screenwriter John W. (Jack) McDermott and was part of his equally fantastic estate. After McDermott’s death in 1946, the house passed through a few owners, barely survived a fire and eventually fell into disrepair at the hands of vandals and squatters.
In 1962 the house was declared abandoned and was razed by the City of Los Angeles but the spider still remains. Unfortunately, the site is on private property and is very, very difficult to access.
